2020 DATES TO REMEMBER & IMPORTANT INFO

Thank you Sam Houston family for making this little school a success on every level.

WE ARE ENGINEERED FOR SUCCESS!

A NEW MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL:

November 20, 2020
Your Sam Houston famILY wants to wish each and everyone of you a very restful, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving holiday.
Stay healthy. Stay safe.

November 9, 2020
Dear SH Parent:
Sam Houston Administration received notice of a positive case of COVID-19 for a staff member on Monday, Nov. 9. The staff member was last on campus on Friday, Nov. 6.

We have conducted a review to determine the possibilities for potential exposure on campus as a result of this positive case through contact tracing. As a result, we have determined that no one at Sam Houston was in “close contact” as defined by the CDC and Texas Education Agency with this positive case.

We do not believe that anyone currently at SH has been exposed to COVID-19 as a result of this positive case. However, any student at SH will be excused and allowed to self-quarantine and receive virtual instruction for up to 10 consecutive calendar days if you as a parent/guardian feel it necessary. Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students.

If you choose to quarantine your student, please contact my office at 903-927-8860 by the end of the day on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in order to make the necessary arrangements for your child’s switch to virtual learning while self-quarantining. If choosing to self-quarantine as a result of this case, your student will also need to report back to my office when they return to school.

Please note: the self-quarantine is for 10 CONSECUTIVE calendar days from the last day the most recent positive case was on campus. If you choose to quarantine your student and then decide to send them back to SH for in-person learning before the 10-day period is complete, that ends the quarantine option. The 10-day period for this option ends on Monday, Nov. 16. Your student would be expected to be back on campus for face-to-face learning on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Friday November 6, 2020
Good afternoon Sam Houston family.
We will begin the 3rd six weeks of school on Monday November 9. We are looking forward to many fun activities for our kids and tons of learning during this time.
We have several important items for you today before we start our weekend.
1. Class pictures have been rescheduled to January 12, 2021 due to a COVID-19 quarantine.
2. We will be welcoming back all of our virtual learners on Monday November 9. We are so excited to have everyone back on campus for in person learning and fun.
3. For all of our returning virtual learner parents, please note that if you have a child in Kinder through second grade you must turn down Harper Drive and turn right onto East Travis Street to join our carpool line. If you have a student that is in third grade through fifth grade you must turn right onto Indian Springs to join our carpool line. Families with children in two or more grade levels that are in both categories will use the Harper Drive route.
Have a great weekend and stay safe and stay healthy.
We will see everyone on Monday!

Tuesday January 12  -Class Picture Day (uniforms required) This was rescheduled due to COVID-19.

Wednesday November 4, 2020
Dear Sam Houston Parents,
Sam Houston Administration received notice of a lab-confirmed, positive test for COVID-19 for a student on Wednesday, Nov. 4. This positive case was last on campus on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

After a review to determine the possibilities for potential exposure on campus as a result of this positive case through contact tracing, it has been determined that there was “close contact” as defined by the CDC and Texas Agency. See below for the definitions of what constitutes “close contact” as provided by the CDC and TEA. The positive case and those determined to have been in close contact have been requested to quarantine and self-isolate at home per our MISD COVID-19 mitigation protocols.

It is important to note that if you did not receive a phone call today regarding this case, your student has been determined to have not been in close contact with the positive case through contact tracing, and is at little to no risk of having been exposed to COVID-19 as a result of this case.

We do not have reason to believe that anyone else at SH other than those determined to have been in close contact has been exposed to COVID-19 as a result of this positive case. However, any student at SH will be excused and allowed to self-quarantine and receive virtual instruction for up to 10 consecutive calendar days if you as a parent/guardian feel it necessary. Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students.

If you choose to quarantine your student, please contact my office at 903-927-8860 by the end of the day on Thursday, Nov. 5, in order to make the necessary arrangements for your child’s switch to virtual learning while self-quarantining. If choosing to self-quarantine as a result of this case, your student will also need to report back to my office when they return to school.

Please note: the self-quarantine is for 10 CONSECUTIVE calendar days from the last day the positive case was on campus. The 10-day period for this option ends on Friday, Nov. 13. Your student would be expected to be back on campus for face-to-face learning on Monday, Nov. 16.

If you choose to quarantine your student and then decide to send them back to SH for in-person learning before the 10-day period is complete, that ends the quarantine option.

“Close contact” is defined by the CDC and Texas Education Agency as the following:

Living in the same household
Caring for a sick person with COVID-19
Being within six feet of a sick person with the virus for at least 15 continuous minutes without the use of a face covering (mask)
Being in direct contact with secretions from a sick person
We will continue our operations at SH as normal. MISD continues to exercise extensive routine cleaning and deep cleaning of all of our facilities and buses throughout the day, every day. We also continue to exercise CDC-recommended guidelines for social distancing in school communities, which include the wearing of face coverings as required by Executive Order of the Governor of Texas; daily temperature checks of all students and personnel; frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizer; and maintaining a distance of at least six feet person to person.

We ask that you, as always, contact your physician if you experience any symptoms related to COVID-19.

Thank you for your support and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Tuesday October 27 - Parents you may send your student to school with a refillable water bottle each day if you choose. We now have 2 "touchless" filling stations installed on campus for students to use throughout the day with refillable water bottles. Students may not bring any type of glass bottle to school. It must have some type of cap on it to prevent spills.

Wednesday October 21 - Progress reports for the 2nd Six Weeks will be available for parents to view on Skyward Family Access.

Due to the recent announcement from MISD we will reschedule our breast cancer awareness recognition to Thursday October 22  BREAST CANCER AWARENESS DAY - students may wear jeans and a PINK shirt to support awareness.

Monday October 12, 2020

Dear SH Parent:

Sam Houston Elementary Administration received notice of a lab-confirmed case for COVID-19 on our campus on Monday, Oct. 12. This positive case was last on campus on Thursday, Oct. 8.

After a review of this case it has been determined that there was not close contact for exposure under guidelines provided by the CDC and Texas Education Agency. See the definition of “close contact” below in regards to the wearing of face coverings. Our MISD COVID-19 mitigation protocols require the wearing of face coverings by students and staff at all times throughout the day.

While we do not have reason to believe that anyone currently at our school has been exposed to COVID-19 as a result of any of this positive case, any student at SH will be excused and allowed to self-quarantine and receive virtual instruction for up to 10 consecutive calendar days from the date the most previous case was on campus, if you as a parent/guardian feel it necessary. Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students.

If you choose to self-quarantine your student, please contact my office at 903-927-8860 by the end of the day on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in order to make the necessary arrangements for your child’s switch to virtual learning while self-quarantining. If choosing to self-quarantine as a result of this case, your student will also need to report back to my office when they return to school.

Please note: the self-quarantine is for 10 CONSECUTIVE calendar days from the date the positive case was last on campus. If you choose to self-quarantine your child, the quarantine period for the most recent case will end on Sunday, Oct. 18. MISD is on Fall Break through Monday, Oct. 19, so your student would be expected to be back on campus for in-person learning on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

If you choose to quarantine your student and then decide to send them back to school for in-person learning before the 10-day period is complete, that ends the quarantine option.

“Close contact” is defined by the CDC and Texas Education Agency as the following:

·         Living in the same household (with a positive case)

·         Caring for a sick person with COVID-19

·         Being within six feet of a sick person with the virus for at least 15 continuous minutes without the use of a face covering (mask)

·         Being in direct contact with secretions from a sick person

We will continue our operations at SH as normal. MISD continues to exercise extensive routine cleaning and deep cleaning of all of our facilities and buses throughout the day, every day. We also continue to exercise CDC-recommended guidelines for social distancing in school communities, which include the wearing of face coverings as required by Executive Order of the Governor of Texas; daily temperature checks of all students and personnel; frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizer; and maintaining a distance of at least six feet person to person.

We ask that you, as always, contact your physician if you experience any symptoms related to COVID-19.

October 7, 2020

Sam Houston Elementary Administration received notice of three lab-confirmed, positive tests for COVID-19 among our Sam Houston students and staff late in the day on Tuesday, Oct. 6. After an administrative review to determine possibilities for potential exposure on campus, it has been determined that none of these cases were in close contact with anyone under exposure criteria provided by the CDC and Texas Education Agency. See the CDC guidelines below for what determines “close contact” in regards to the removal of face masks for at least 15 continuous minutes.

Two students who have tested positive for COVID-19 have not been on campus since Friday, Sept. 25. These students have been in self-quarantine since that date and have not had contact with any member of the Sam Houston family here at school since that time.

The staff member who tested positive was last on campus on Monday, Oct. 5. However, due to our protocols of the continuous wearing of face coverings throughout the day, and after review of this case, it has been determined that no one at Sam Houston was in close contact with this positive case and therefore is at very low risk for exposure according to CDC guidelines.

While we do not have reason to believe that anyone currently at our school has been exposed to COVID-19 as a result of any of these positive cases, any student at Sam Houston will be excused and allowed to self-quarantine and receive virtual instruction for up to 10 consecutive calendar days from the date the most previous case was on campus, if you as a parent/guardian feel it necessary. Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students.

If you choose to self-quarantine your student, please contact my office at 903-927-8860 by the end of the day on Thursday, Oct. 8, in order to make the necessary arrangements for your child’s switch to virtual learning while self-quarantining. If choosing to self-quarantine as a result of this case, your student will also need to report back to my office when they return to school.

Please note: the self-quarantine is for 10 CONSECUTIVE calendar days from the date the positive case was last on campus. If you choose to self-quarantine your child, the quarantine period for the most recent case will end on Friday, Oct. 16, and MISD will be on Fall Break on that day. Your student would be expected to be back on campus for in-person learning on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

If you choose to quarantine your student and then decide to send them back to SH for in-person learning before the 10-day period is complete, that ends the quarantine option.

“Close contact” is defined by the CDC and Texas Education Agency as the following:

  • Living in the same household
  • Caring for a sick person with COVID-19
  • Being within six feet of a sick person with the virus for at least 15 continuous minutes without the use of a face covering (mask)
  • Being in direct contact with secretions from a sick person

We will continue our operations at Sam Houston Elementary as normal.

  • Families who have students in grades K-2 will turn on Harper Dr. from Hwy 80, then turn onto Travis and proceed to the campus.
  • Families who have students in grades 3-5 will turn onto Indian Springs from Hwy. 80, then right on Travis and proceed to campus.
  • Families with children in two or more grade levels that are in both categories will use the Harper Drive route.
  • The lines will merge on Travis St. and continue with the regular dismissal route.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work to improve the flow of traffic to our school each day.

Start Up Information for Sam Houston Elementary

You can find the Marshall ISD Start Up Plan at the following link:https://marshallisd.com/misdreopening

Please know that our number one priority is to provide a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff as well as provide the best instruction possible for every student during this continued uncertain time.

We want to make you aware of several important pieces of information going forward to help you plan for the upcoming school year. Please note the following:

  1. All students will come to Sam Houston from one of two ways. By bus or through carpool. We will not have any WALKUP SERVICE this school year for arrivals or dismissals. Bus riders will enter through the front door and car riders will enter through the new Kinder wing entrance in the back. All traffic will again come SOUTH on Indian Springs Road and turn RIGHT onto E. Travis Street in the carpool line.
  2. We will be unable to open car doors for you going forward as we try to provide a safe, contact-free environment for our adults each day. Make sure you have practiced opening those car doors with your children.
  3. We will use Skyward, Remind101, Facebook, our call out system, email, and Principal’s Corner on our Sam Houston website (http://sh.marshallisd.com/) to communicate with parents and guardians. If you have a blended/extended family or special circumstance in which multiple adults need to receive information about the student it is your responsibility to enter this information into Skyward and to communicate that with the classroom teacher.
  4. The best source of campus information is on our website at Principal’s Corner. It is updated often.  http://sh.marshallisd.com/
  5. SH will not have any after school activities this year. This includes Boys & Girls Club.
  6. We will have virtual “Meet the Teacher Nights” this year. These will occur the week of August 10. Video links and other information will be provided.
  7.  This information is not exhaustive due to the COVID-19 situation and will be adjusted to meet the needs of our students and campus. If you have questions about any of the COVID-19 protocols for MISD you can ask your questions at reentry2020@marshallisd.com.

Thank you in advance for your patience this year and your support. We look forward to seeing our Sam Houston FamILY again soon.
